I’m working on a project for my PHP class I’m calling “Site Architect.” The goal is to make it easy for anyone to create a webpage, using a simple web interface and WYSIWYG editor. I’ll most likely be implementing ExtJS (I love this framework more everyday) . I’ve got a lot of big plans for it, I’m worried (actually, I’m almost sure) that I won’t have it completed in time, but it should at least meet the project requirements. The site creation process will be split up into three different parts – Layout, Theme / Stlye, and Content. The layout step will consist of drag and drop, movable, dynamic and resizable boxes will represent divs. After it’s all set up, themes and styles will be applied. Finally, content can be added to each div. To be honest, I’m not sure how hard this is going to be, and I’m surprised I haven’t found something like this already. Now that I think about it, I guess I’m really just designing an easier to use web-based version of Dreamweaver (minus the coding support…who uses Dreamweaver to code though anyway?). I doubt the site will be at the point I want it to be in just a couple weeks, so I’ll have something to keep me busy over summer – along with a job and another website idea.
I’ve finished all the courses I need for my BS in Info Tech, so I’ll have my senior year to take some classes I’ve been interested in but never had time for. Specifically a creative writing class (authors are BA), a guitar class over the summer, some anthropology classes (my almost double major), and a bunch of computer science classes. Oh, and a class about velocoraptors would kick ass.
